Rapid Shelter Columbia receives donated water stations from the American Heart Association and Ritedose Corporation
August 27, 2024In a significant step towards promoting heart health and sustainability, Rapid Shelter Columbia was excited to receive the generous donation of new water-filling stations from the American Heart Association and the Ritedose Corporation. A ribbon cutting was held to celebrate the event and following the ribbon cutting hand-only CPR demonstrations were held, as well as blood pressure education sessions for Rapid Shelter Columbia residents.
“The City of Columbia Homeless Services, Ritedose and the American Heart Association, Midlands embodies our shared commitment to improving lives,” said Johnasten Cooper, City of Columbia Homeless Services’ Project Coordinator. “Their donation of water stations is more than just a gift; it’s a lifeline that promotes health and well-being among our residents. Together, we are making a tangible impact, ensuring that every resident at Rapid Shelter Columbia has access to clean, refreshing water—a vital resource for heart health and overall wellness. This collaboration truly reflects: Be the Change.”
According to the American Heart Association, proper hydration is essential for heart health, and keeping the body hydrated helps the heart pump blood easier through the blood vessels to the muscles. The donation of the water-filling stations was accompanied with reusable water bottles for all of the residents at Rapid Shelter Columbia.
“The American Heart Association is committed to advancing health equity – which only exists when everyone has an opportunity to enjoy healthier lives,” said Lizzie Tankersley, American Heart Association of the Midlands Executive Director. “Finding a way for these residents to have something we take for granted so often is an initiative we are both proud of and grateful to be a part of.”
This donation comes on the heels of Ritedose being recognized by the American Heart Association as the #1 Field Day company in the nation for 2023.
