Finalists Participate in Live Bake-off; Winning Recipes to be Sold at Concession Stands Tournament Week

The RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing Golf Tournament is looking for two tasty cookie recipes to serve up at the 51st Annual RBC Heritage. Today, it launches the Plaid Nation Cookie Contest—in partnership with University of South Carolina Beaufort—to find two winning cookies that will be sold at RBC Heritage concession stands during tournament week in April.

“The Plaid Nation Cookie Contest is a new venture for us and a great opportunity to partner with USCB, and get fans involved,” said Steve Wilmot, tournament director of the RBC Heritage and president of the Heritage Classic Foundation. “The RBC Heritage is all about family, fun and charity. We’re inviting our fans – both young and old – to enter their favorite cookie recipe for a chance to contribute to charity and have their cookies on sale at concession stands during tournament week.”

There are two contest age categories: adults 18 and over, and youth between the ages of 8-17. Between now and March 18, bakers are encouraged to submit their recipe here with a photo of the cookie. All entrants will be narrowed down by contest organizers to the top three finalists in each category. Judging will be based on creativity, cookie name and its deliciousness factor. The lucky contest finalists will be notified on March 20 of their invitation to participate in “Plaid Nation’s Live Cookie Bake-Off” on Wednesday, March 27 at 10:30 a.m. at the new USCB Hilton Head Island campus hospitality center and test kitchen.

USCB students studying hotel, restaurant and tourism industries will manage the event with contest organizers. Media and community members will be invited to watch the contest, meet the winning bakers and taste the official Plaid Nation cookies of the 51st RBC Heritage tournament.

In addition to bragging rights and seeing their cookie available for sale at concession stands during the RBC Heritage, each winner will receive a champion package including tickets to the tournament and plaid swag.

“There are eight concession stands located on the course and are fully staffed by volunteers from various local civic or non-profit organizations,” added Wilmot. “All the money raised from cookie sales will benefit their respective organizations. In fact, our concession stand volunteers have raised $5.2 million for local organizations since 1969, from concession stand sales alone.”

In total, Heritage Classic Foundation has distributed $41 million to charitable organizations that enhance the quality of life for our local community members.
