Record 27 students win Sparkleberry Country Fair scholarships

April 19, 2017

The Sparkleberry Country Fair is helping twenty-seven Richland Two students pay their college expenses.  The students, from all five Richland Two high schools, will each be awarded $1000 at a reception Wednesday, April 19.  The event will take place at 6 p.m. at the Richland Two Institute of Innovation (R2i2), located at 763 Fashion Drive, 29229, at the Village at Sandhill.

The scholarship money comes from proceeds of the Sparkleberry Country Fair, held each year the last Saturday in April.  The fair, which is in its 22nd year, gives back to the community with scholarships and teacher grants.  Thirty-seven teachers were awarded a total of $23,000 in grant money this school year, thanks to the fair.

Sixty-eight students applied for the scholarships this year.  Judges selected students based on grades, need, essay and community service.

The Sparkleberry Country Fair will be held on Saturday, April 29 at the Clemson Sandhill Research and Education Center on Clemson Road.  The cost is $5 a carload.
