Record-Breaking Early Voting Turnout in South Carolina, Strong Numbers in Laurens County

October 23, 2024

Early voting is off to a historic start in South Carolina as more than 125,000 voters turned out on the first day alone, setting a new record for early voting turnout in the state. This new record, achieved on Monday, October 21, 2024, saw approximately 125,900 voters heading to the polls, surpassing the previous record of 70,100 set during the 2022 General Election.

“We are thrilled to see voters embracing the convenience of early voting, and we are anticipating a significant turnout for this election,” said Howie Knapp, Executive Director of the South Carolina State Election Commission (SEC).

Laurens County has seen higher than usual crowds of early voters. By the close of voting on Wednesday, October 23, 3,590 voters had already cast their ballots at the Laurens County Voter Registration and Elections office.  Located at 105 Bolt Drive in Laurens, the Voter Registration office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily, except on Sunday, October 27, when it will be closed.

As early voting continues through Saturday, November 2, 2024, voters across the state are encouraged to take advantage of the convenience. South Carolina voters need to bring a valid Photo ID and can vote in person at their designated early voting center.
