Record-Breaking Night Earns Clinton RB Javen Cook Player of the Week Honors

The Laurens County Touchdown Club is proud to announce that for games played on Friday, October 17th, the Player of the week is Clinton High School running back Javen Cook.

Cook is a senior running back for the Clinton High School Red Devils as he had a historic night running the football for the Devils in their 56 – 14 win over region foe Landrum Cardinals.

Javen Cook had an outstanding night rushing and scoring the football for the Red Devils.  Cook rushed for a school record 334 yards on just 13 carries and tied the school record with 5 touchdowns as well.  Cooks touchdown runs were of 52, 58, 7, 79 and 81 yards.  Cook also set a school record with points scored in a game with 34 total points on the night adding two 2-Pt. conversions to his 5 touchdown total.

Head Coach Corey Fountain stated, Javen is a fierce competitor!  His drive to be the best can be seen in his work ethic, in his effort everyday in practice, in the weight room and in everything he does!  He makes coaching fun!”

The Laurens County Touchdown Club will honor Cook on October 30th at the bi-monthlyTouchdown Club meeting.  The meeting will be at noon at The Ridge in Laurens with Grouchos Deli serving the meal and the food service line opening at 11:45 am.  Player of the Week awards will presented in 2025 by Farm Bureau Insurance of Laurens County.

The October 30th meeting will feature WSPA TV sports anchor Pete Yanity.  Yanity has been anchoring and covering sports for more than 35 years.  Hes been the sports director and main anchor for 7 NEWS Sports Team since arriving at WSPA-TV in October 1990.  Yanity can be seen on 7 NEWS weekdays at 6, 7, 10 and 11 pm.

The Laurens County Touchdown Club meets every other Thursday throughout the football season at The Ridge located in Laurens at 301 Exchange Road and the public is invited.  Tickets can be purchased at the door for $15. All meetings are at Noon with the food service line opening at 11:45 am.  

Additionally, the Farm Bureau Insurance “Player of the Week’ awards will be presented for the October 17 and October 24 High School football games and we will have a recap from all of the coaches of the local High School teams and Presbyterian College.  Lakelands FCA of Laurens County will present a Players Bible to each award winner as well.
