Red Cross Appoints Beth Shwedo as Interim Executive Director of American Red Cross of Central SC
December 8, 2014COLUMBIA, SC – The American Red Cross Palmetto SC Region welcomes Beth Shwedo as Interim Executive Director of the American Red Cross of Central SC.
“Our board of directors is thrilled to have Beth in this leadership position,” said , Donita Todd, chairman of the board of directors for the American Red Cross of Central SC. “Beth has shown great enthusiasm and devotion in supporting significant community programs for more than 30 years and she understands the critical role the Red Cross plays in supporting our community.”
As Interim Executive Director, Shwedo will assist with volunteer recruiting, fundraising activities and will represent the Red Cross at local speaking engagements until a permanent Executive Director is selected.
In addition to supporting positions with Red Cross, Shwedo has devoted her time to supporting civilian and Department of Defense Dependent Schools, military child education and spouse programs, and family readiness groups.
Among Shwedo’s leadership roles, she served as a senior spouse advisor for various military community agencies at the Basic Combat Training Center of Excellence at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.
Shwedo’s support as a leader has earned the Secretary of the Army’s Public Service Award, three awards of the Department of the Army’s Outstanding Civilian Service Award, several Commander’s Award for Public Service and induction into the Fort Jackson Volunteer Hall of Fame.
Counties served by the American Red Cross of Central SC include Calhoun, Fairfield, Lexington, Newberry, Orangeburg, Richland, Saluda, Aiken, Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Edgefield, Clarendon, Kershaw, Lee and Sumter.
Central SC is part of the American Red Cross Palmetto SC Region which serves the entire state of South Carolina. On average the American Red Cross, Palmetto SC Region responds to a disaster every 4 hours. Last year the Palmetto South Carolina Region assisted 7,118 individuals affected by disaster in South Carolina.
