Reedy River brings out the seniors for The Woodlands at Furman Challenge

March 4, 2014

GREENVILLE, SC – March 4, 2014 – Forty seniors from across the Upstate ran and walked the 2014 Reedy River races this weekend downtown.

Octavia Childress earned the most points on the women’s side followed by Anne Brooks and Kaye Gher. Childress and Brooks were the leaders in the last Challenge event, The Green Valley road races. For the year, Childress and Brooks are in first and second place followed by Sandi Hardaway, Flora Fulton and Lee Rhys.

The men’s side leader in points was David B. Turner followed by David Spark and Lee Cook in second and third place. For the year to date, Bill Beckwith is the overall leader followed by Bob Chandler, Spark, Billy Clinkscales and Cook.

The Woodland at Furman Challenge was started in 2011 in conjunction with the Greenville Track Club as a way to promote physical fitness amongst Upstate residents age 65 and older. Points are awarded using a formula that takes in both race finish as well as the age of the competitor.

The Woodlands is sponsoring the Challenge because of its commitment to healthy senior living in the Upstate. It is a Life Care community that added Masterpiece Living, which assists visionary communities who are already leading the industry with their wellness commitment, to become places where residents and staff alike seek to better themselves.
