Reminder: City of Clinton Updates Metal Pickup Policy Effective March 30
March 29, 2026Residents are being reminded of an important change to curbside collection services that took effect on March 30.
The City’s Streets and Sanitation Department has announced that it will no longer collect metal items placed in man-made curbside piles, following updated requirements from the Laurens County landfill.
According to officials, the landfill will no longer accept metal mixed with other debris unless it is properly separated. Due to the additional time, labor, and resources required to sort these materials, the City determined that continuing curbside metal collection is no longer feasible.
What This Means for Residents
Beginning March 30, the following items will not be collected at the curb:
- Scrap metal of any kind
- Metal appliances
- Metal furniture
- Any other metal items included in man-made piles
Residents are now responsible for arranging their own disposal of metal items.
Enforcement and Compliance
To assist with the transition, the Streets and Sanitation Department will monitor curbside piles:
- If metal items are found, crews will leave a door hanger notice explaining the policy.
- If the items are not removed by the following week, the matter will be referred to Code Enforcement for further action.
City officials encourage residents to plan ahead and utilize appropriate recycling or disposal options for metal items moving forward. For more information, residents may contact the City’s Streets and Sanitation Department or check with local recycling facilities.
