Rethink your workwear denim
September 17, 2015By Brian Maynor
Denim has undergone some major transformations over the years, but its has maintained it’s relevance since debuting back in the 1800s. Not many fashion pieces share that longevity.
With all the different treatments, washes, styles and types of denim on the market today, it is possible to weave denim into your casual work wardrobe in creative ways that go beyond the humble pair of jeans. Here are a few examples that are ideal for fall:
1. Â Â Dresses. Probably not the first thing that pops into your mind when you think of denim, but denim dresses hit all the right notes. They are structured, versatile and give you endless opportunities to personalize them with accessories. Classic shapes will highlight all the right curves while the durable fabric lets you wear them all year long.
2. Â Â Shirts. Another easy piece that can go virtually unnoticed when layered with a tie and sweater is the perfect way to tone down a formal suit for those semi-formal occasions. With so many washes on the market, they have some that feel just a soft and luxurious as any traditional oxford shirt.
3. Â Â Skirts. This is a bit trickier to pull off in a modern style because a lot of people immediately think either of those light-washed long denim skirts moms wore with white socks and sneakers or the mini-shirts loved by teenagers, but fortunately those are not your only options. High-waist, button-front, contrast-seaming and other details can give your denim skirt an updated look and still have it hit at an appropriate knee-length.
4.   Jackets. A longstanding weekend staple, the denim jacket is set to be one of the hottest layering pieces for fall and winter. Whether it’s worn with a blazer, overcoat or as a stand-alone piece this classic item is given a professional upgrade and will be a great addition to your transition wardrobe.
Denim started out specifically as a work wear fabric so it’s nice to see it returning to its roots with a modern twist.
