Reverend Jesse Jackson Sr. to Lie in State at South Carolina Statehouse; Flags Ordered to Half-Staff
February 23, 2026The body of the Reverend Jesse Jackson Sr. will lie in state at the South Carolina Statehouse on Monday, March 2, 2026, following a request from the Jackson family and numerous members of the South Carolina General Assembly.
Governor Henry McMaster has ordered that flags atop the Statehouse be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset that day in honor of Jackson’s life, legacy, and contributions.
The South Carolina Department of Administration is coordinating arrangements with representatives of the Jackson family. Additional details regarding public viewing and ceremonial plans are expected to be announced in the coming days.
Reverend Jackson, a prominent civil rights leader and longtime public figure with deep ties to South Carolina, is being honored with one of the state’s highest tributes.
