ReWa wins Spirit of Einstein Award

GREENVILLE, SC – Roper Mountain Science Center, Roper Mountain Science Center Association as well as Greenville County Schools have recognized Renewable Water Resources (ReWa) for its work in the business community with the Spirt of Einstein award.
The award goes to people and organizations that, like Einstein, embody a spirit of creativity and imagination, demonstrate innovative achievement and encourage the study of math and science. ReWa was cited for its business and philanthropic work.
Water conservation is a main goal of ReWa and it furthers that goal by informing our local community with engaging environmental education. ReWa aims to protect the Upstate’s precious rivers, streams and creeks from pollution. To help convey this message, ReWa has created the first annual “Clean Water Challenge” that will take place in April of 2016. This challenge engages seventh grade science students and will serve as a pilot program that links the wastewater treatment process to science standards.
In addition, ReWa has developed and implemented an innovative public education campaign called Be Freshwater Friendly that includes seven engaging initiatives: curb control, pipe patrol, poop etiquette, yard savvy, septic smarts, potty protocol and label wise. Its goals are to raise awareness, educate the community and to encourage behavioral changes in an engaging way. By educating the public on how small changes in our day to day actions can make a large impact environmentally, the agency can decrease the pollutants that enter the wastewater and storm water systems which will help improve water quality in the Upstate of South Carolina.
The agency also has spearheaded Project Rx: A River Remedy that held its tenth drug take-back event this year for Upstate residents to properly dispose of their unused or unwanted medications. Project Rx had seven sites in Greenville and collected 1,810 pounds of medications for proper disposal, making this the second largest Project Rx medication take-back event to date.

ReWa’s goal is to promote a cleaner environment, and to protect the public health and water quality of the Upstate waterways, while providing and developing the necessary sewer infrastructure for the growing economy. ReWa serves more than 400,000 industrial, commercial and residential customers in Greenville County and parts of Anderson, Spartanburg, Pickens and Laurens Counties.
