Richland County Councilwoman leads the South Carolina Association of Counties County Council Coalition

COLUMBIA, SC – During today’s South Carolina Association of Counties (SCAC) Fall Meeting, Councilwoman Joyce Dickerson was voted in as the 2014-2015 SCAC County Council Coalition President. Ms. Dickerson will oversee the biannual coalition meetings and facilitate all discussions that will be proposed by the SCAC four policy steering committees. The SCAC County Council Coalition is composed of council members from the governing bodies from all 46 counties, and is vital to shaping the policy positions of the organization.
SCAC is a non-partisan, nonprofit organization that promotes more efficient county governments, studies, discusses and recommends improvements in government and promotes legislation that supports efficient administration of local government in South Carolina. SCAC is the only state organization representing county government in South Carolina.
Councilwoman Joyce Dickerson currently serves as the Vice Chair of Richland County Council and is serving in her third (3rd) term as a council member. Dickerson is committed to fiscal responsibility and sustainable budgeting, and has an open-door policy for all Richland County citizens. Councilwoman Dickerson supports economic development, job creation and transparency in government.
Councilwoman Dickerson is married to retired Air Force Sergeant Matthew Dickerson and together they have two children. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, in which she graduated cum laude. She also earned an Associate Degree in Psychology from Midlands Technical College. She is a native of Savannah, Georgia, and moved to Columbia in 1975 with her husband and two children, following her husband’s retirement from the United States Air Force. She is a former independent business owner and retired as a Compliance Auditor in 2006.
