Richland Library addresses personal needs of community amid COVID-19

While Richland Library locations remain closed until further notice, in the interest of public safety, we continue to be a trusted and active partner in the community during the coronavirus pandemic. Our staff is focused on providing resources to address the personal needs of our community.
The Social Work Department is returning calls from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., Mondays – Fridays. Customers can reach them at 803-509-8371. Currently, staff is receiving an increase in requests for assistance with rent and utilities. They are providing an updated guide of services that cover shelter and health care to meal distribution and transportation.
In addition, the Social Work Department is participating in weekly calls with the United Way of the Midlands to discuss assistance for those who are experiencing homelessness. As a result of these efforts, Richland Library has deployed eight of its hand sanitizing stands with refills to Transitions, Homeless No More and Killingsworth Home. The library has also placed two port-o-lets and a hand-washing station outside our Main location (1431 Assembly Street).
Lastly, more than 2,000 books are accessible in laundromats, grocery stores and public housing sites across Richland County. The Outreach Department recently placed these items in 22 community collections for people to use – and keep if they wish.
