Richland Library announces new Artist-in-Residence

July 14, 2022

Welcome Terrance Henderson Performing Artist, Choreographer, and Director

Richland Library continues providing unfettered access to programming, services, and resources, including mental health, mindfulness support and creativity through performance. Please join us in welcoming the newest addition to the residency program, Terrance Henderson.

Henderson is the dance program coordinator for Midlands Arts Conservatory, Director of the Modern and Contemporary Dance Program at Southeastern School of Ballet, and Chair of the Equity Task Force at Trustus Theatre.

In 2016, Henderson was the recipient of the Steve G. Morrison Visionary Award presented by One Columbia for the Arts and Culture. Most recently, he was featured in the Historic Columbia and University of South Carolina Libraries “We’re Here” Project collecting oral histories of LGBTQIA+ Columbia.

During his residency, the international award-winning performing artist plans to share some of his strategies for telling personal stories and bringing creative ideas and inspirations to life through performance.

He plans to offer panel discussions with other local performance artists, workshops for the community that will focus on the creative process, as well as classes designed to help educators encourage creativity in teaching and learning in the classroom and beyond.

He’ll hold office hours each week in his studio on the second level at Main on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Henderson will serve as Artist-in-Residence through December 16, 2022.

Created in 2015, the library’s residency program aims to connect the community directly with local working artists, entrepreneurs and writers. Learn more here.
