Richland Library hosts gallery opening reception
February 26, 2026Journey of the Stitched Soul
Richland Library invites the community to experience Journey of the Stitched Soul, a powerful solo exhibition by fiber and quilt artist LaToya Thompson, opening with a special reception on Friday, February 27, 2026, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Richland Library Main.
The evening will feature a celebratory gallery reception and a live musical performance by 843 Symphony, whose dynamic sound will provide a stirring backdrop to an exhibition rooted in memory, movement, and shared experience.
This deeply personal yet communal body of work reflects quilting as both art form and historical record. Each piece carries forward a legacy of storytelling, inviting viewers to consider how individual journeys, when sewn together, create something stronger, richer, and sacred.
Thompson, a recent Artist-in-Residence at Richland Library, is an accomplished visual, fiber, and quilt artist whose work has been exhibited at the African American Museum of Dallas and the Embassy of South Africa in Washington, D.C. Her work has earned numerous honors, including the Art Flow Juror’s Choice Award and recognition at the MOJA Arts Festival. She currently maintains a studio at Acline Studios in Lake City, South Carolina, and serves as a high school visual arts teacher in Florence School District #3.
The exhibition will be on view from February 27 through March 20, 2026, at Richland Library Main.
