Richland Library kicks off summer learning challenge

Children, Teens & Adults to Participate June 1 – August 10

Adventure is just around the corner at your local library. Visit your favorite Richland Library location to kick off the 2024 Summer Learning Challenge which began June 1.

This year, Richland Library is providing multiple ways to learn, create and share by encouraging participants to track their participation by time or activity:

Reading for 30 minutes or complete a listed activity Attending a Summer Learning Challenge program or Completing a learning activity of your choice

Interested participants can visit their local Richland Library location to pick up a tracking record or print a tracking record at their leisure by visiting www.richlandlibrary.com/summer. Once participants have completed their Summer Learning Challenge they are encouraged to visit their local library location to begin their celebration with prizes such as:

  • A Medal (For children and teens)
  • Physical prize of Your Choice:
  • Drawstring Bag, Binoculars, or Beach Ball
  • Free admission to the Columbia Museum of Art (Good for entry of one adult and one child under 18 through December 31, 2024).
  • Free ticket to a select Columbia Fireflies game (Good for one child or teen).
  • One Free Item from the Friends and Foundation Book Sale (Up to a $2 value)
  • BOGO Kiddie SnoBall from Pelican’s SnoBalls (Available at select locations.)

The Summer Learning Challenge aims to prevent summer slide, or summer learning loss, in Richland County youth. Summer slide refers to the two months of learning loss many students experience over the summer. To keep minds active and engaged over the summer, the Summer Learning Challenge runs from Saturday, June 1 through Saturday, August 10.
