Richland One and Richland Two Uniting Again to Fight Breast Cancer
October 13, 2014COLUMBIA, SC – Last year Richland One and Richland Two (jointly known as Team Richland) raised more than $100,000 to help fight breast cancer. The two districts have joined forces again this year as they gear up for the Palmetto Health Foundation’s 2014 Walk/Race for Life on October 18.

More than $4,000 was raised to benefit the 2014 Palmetto Health Foundation’s Walk/Race for Life campaign for breast cancer research.
Team Richland will join thousands of walkers and runners at 7:30 a.m. at Finlay Park for the annual event. Community supporters interested in joining Team Richland at this year’s walk/run should contact Dr. Carlos Smith ([email protected]) or Dr. Traci Cooper ([email protected]).
The Palmetto Health Foundation and the South Carolina State Fair also have teamed up to take a “Grand Stand” against breast cancer. Walker/runners wearing their 2014 Walk for Life/Race for Life T-shirts to the State Fair on Saturday, October 18 or Sunday, October 19 will be admitted free.
Team Richland kicked off the first phase of its joint effort to combat breast cancer at the inaugural “Nothing But Net” charity basketball game between Richland One and Richland Two on October 2. The game, which was played at Richland Northeast High School, was a resounding success. Employee teams faced off on the court in some friendly competition for a good cause. Proceeds will benefit the Palmetto Health Walk/Race for Life campaign. The Richland Two team won the game by a basket (66-64) to claim the trophy and bragging rights for a year, but Richland One Board Chairman Aaron Bishop won the free throw competition against Richland Two Board Chairman Chip Jackson, and Richland One raised the most money ($2,356.20). Richland Two raised $1,656.20. Plans are already in the works for next year’s match-up which will be hosted by Richland One.
