Richland One honors award winners, retiring employees
May 18, 2015COLUMBIA, SC – With the 2014-2015 school year quickly coming to a close, Richland One paused on May 14 to honor some of the district’s most dynamic and dedicated employees during Celebration 2015 at Seawell’s. The theme of the evening was “Yes, We Can!”
Teachers of the Year and Classified Employees of the Year from schools and administrative sites throughout the district were recognized individually. Jennifer Wise of Hand Middle School was announced as the district’s 2015-2016 Teacher of the Year. Jennifer Helmly of Brennen Elementary School was named Richland One’s 2015-2016 Classified Employee of the Year. Each received a plaque and a check for $500.
The district’s 132 retiring employees, who represent a combined 2,971.5 years of service to Richland One, also were honored during the event and received gifts of appreciation. John P. Thomas Elementary School teacher Louise Williams, who has worked in Richland One for 45 years, was honored for being the employee retiring this year with the most years of service to the district.
Other retiring employees who were recognized for 40 or more years of service were: Mack Ouzts of Human Resource Services, 40 years; Mary Kirkland of Burton-Pack Elementary School, 41 years; Ivory Boyd of Maintenance Services, 41.5 years; and William Long of Risk Management, 43 years.
