Richland One partners with University of South Carolina for SC-DREAM for future elementary school teachers

September 9, 2024

If you have a bachelor’s degree and you want to be an elementary school teacher in South Carolina but you lack teaching experience or certification, there’s a new opportunity available to you.

Richland One has teamed up with the University of South Carolina for SC-DREAM. The initiative allows individuals with a bachelor’s degree who are interested in transitioning from their current profession to become an elementary school teacher in Richland One.

SC-DREAM provides a unique teaching residency experience with students in grades 2-6; coaching and mentoring; Praxis preparation support; professional learning opportunities; and induction support from CarolinaTIP (Carolina Teacher Induction Program). SC-DREAM residents will receive professional and financial support as they simultaneously pursue their Master of Arts in Teaching degree and elementary education teaching certification.

Admission requirements for SC-DREAM include:

  • Minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.50 on a 4.00 system
  • Transcript review of required pre-requisite coursework with project faculty
  • Apply to USC Graduate School by October 15
