Richland One superintendent Dr. Todd Walker shares draft of R1 Vision 2030 and Beyond with district stakeholders

In the not-so-distant future, Richland One will be a national model of excellence for urban, suburban and rural school systems serving diverse learners.
Richland One Superintendent Dr. Todd Walker has released the draft of R1 Vision 2030 and Beyond, a future-focused blueprint for transforming teaching, learning and organizational effectiveness in the district over the next five years and beyond.
“Our Vision 2030 and Beyond is a comprehensive and detailed picture of the future that includes everyone, encapsulating the innovations that will lead Richland One forward within the context of the rapid growth and expansion that will take place in Columbia and Richland County in the next 20 years,” said Dr. Walker.
“And while 2030 is our destination, ‘Beyond’ is our recognition that Vision is progressively realized, so we will and must continue to evolve.”
The 29-page R1 Vision 2030 and Beyond document was authored by Dr. Walker, who began his duties as Richland One’s superintendent July 1, 2025. Over a 90-day period, Dr. Walker conducted a comprehensive assessment of the district, which included holding 16 Listening & Learning Sessions at locations throughout the community. District stakeholders also shared their thoughts on Richland One’s strengths, challenges and opportunities through an anonymous online survey.
Students, staff, parents and community members are encouraged to read the draft R1 Vision 2030 and Beyond document at www.RichlandOne.org/Vision2030. Accompanying materials posted on the landing page include an executive summary, video presentations by Dr. Walker, a presentation slide deck and infographics. Stakeholders can scan a QR code to provide feedback about the draft.
Dr. Walker will unveil the final version of R1 Vision 2030 and Beyond during his State of the District Address on Thursday, February 26 at 6 p.m. in the A.C. Flora High School Theatre (1 Falcon Drive, Columbia, SC 29204). The presentation also will be livestreamed on the district’s website (www.RichlandOne.org).
