Richland Penny releases invitation for bids for two resurfacing contracts

January 27, 2016

RICHLAND COUNTY, SC – The Richland Penny Program is currently advertising two resurfacing contracts for bid on County-owned roads. Bidders can go to the program’s website, under the Doing Business tab, and visit 2016 Resurfacing Project Package E and 2016 Resurfacing Project Package F for information on the projects and bid submission deadlines. The projects under the contracts will undergo resurfacing and needed base repair of 142 roads, or approximately 23.5 miles throughout the county.

Richland County has approximately 555 miles of paved roads in its county maintained inventory. In 2015, the Richland Penny Program assessed these roads and produced a Pavement Management Report to assist the County with developing a programmatic approach to resurfacing. Based on the report, County Council approved a two-year resurfacing list that addresses many of the roads that are in the greatest need of repair.

“I look forward to a successful resurfacing season and am glad to see the program deliver a large volume of roads this year, which more than doubles the mileage of roads resurfaced last year. This will go a long way in serving the citizens of Richland County and reducing the maintenance calls our Public Works Department receives routinely for repairs,” said Rob Perry, Richland County transportation director.

The 2016 Resurfacing Package E and Resurfacing Package F projects are expected to begin this spring and completed by the end of this year.
