Rickie Good named Director for the new Revolutionary War Visitor Center at Camden

Camden Archives and Museum Curator of Collections Rickie Good has been hired to serve as Director for one of the newest tourism attractions in the state – The Revolutionary War Visitor Center at Camden. The Director will be responsible for all operations, administrative functions and outreach for the new visitor center which will open to the public at-large this summer.
According to Camden City Manager Mel Pearson, Good was by far the standout candidate among a final, narrowed field of applicants for the position.
“With more than 20 years of experience researching, creating and promoting museums and exhibit attractions, Rickie is well trained in her craft,” said Pearson. “She has exceptional curatorial skills, and her work in preserving and promoting the historical and cultural heritage of this area is unsurpassed. Her industry expertise and proven ability to build on collaborative and reciprocal relationships within the community of historians will be an invaluable asset as we go forward.”
Good earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia College while specializing in American History. She received a Masters of Arts degree in Public History at the University of South Carolina, with specialization in museum management and Colonial American History.
Another reason Good is such a great fit for this new high profile position, says Pearson, is her experience working in the City’s Tourism Department which is responsible for tourism development throughout Camden and Kershaw County.
“While Rickie has worked for the City at the Archives and Museum for eight years, she has also worked closely with our tourism director Suzi Sale a good portion of that time,” said Pearson “In addition to assisting with tourism and hospitality promotion, she has proven herself to be an extremely knowledgeable and enjoyable host to visitors, tour groups and travel writers visiting our area.”
“Rickie is a true treasure when it comes to promoting Camden and Kershaw County,” Sale said. “In addition to the warmth and friendliness she exudes, she is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about what she does for others and the work she does for the area in the city’s tourism office at the Price House.
In 2019, in recognition for her outstanding performance, Good received the Hospitality Employee of the Year Award by the Olde English Tourism Commission (OED), the body that promotes tourism and economic development on a state level in seven counties, including Kershaw County.
Prior to joining Camden Archives, Good was Executive Director of the Sumter County Museum where she supervised staff and operations of the 15-building complex. She was also Director of the Scarborough Hamer Foundation where she led the partnership with International Paper Corporation in Eastover, SC in curating furnishings for Kensington Mansion, preparing and implementing strategic plans for the Foundation’s Board of Directors, supervised programming, managed staff and volunteers, pursued grant funding, managed marketing and promotion and expanded guest services.
“Creative, artistic, and highly educated in the field of history, Rickie has been a valued employee,” said Katherine Richardson, Director of the Camden Archives and Museum. “In addition to single-handedly processing and cataloging more than five thousand objects, she has programmed and produced eight major exhibits ranging from Camden’s Moment in NASCAR History: The Bondy Long Story and A Transformative Event: When DuPont Came to Camden, to Camden in the Civil War: The Home Front and our current exhibit, Turning Points: The Battles of Camden. She is the best museum curator in the state of South Carolina, and will be an asset to any endeavor she undertakes.”
Good assumes her new role March 1. The Revolutionary War Visitor Center at Camden is scheduled to open to the public at-large this summer.
