River Springs Elementary School teacher earns national award
August 11, 2025River Springs Elementary School Physical Education (PE) teacher Ben Landers received an award during the annual National Physical Education Institute July 17-18, 2025 at UNC Asheville.
The ARTIE (Awesome Rad Thinking in Education) award is given in honor of Artie Kamiya, a well-known leader in the field of PE, to innovate physical education leaders who have created pathways to help move the profession forward.
“This is something that’s so meaningful to me because of who Artie is,” Landers said. “If you are unaware, Artie is considered to be “The Godfather” of PE by many because of his many contributions and leadership in the field of PE and his unique ability to build connections, bring people together and create a community that has a positive impact on people.”
The National PE Institute is a professional development conference designed to enhance the teaching practices of physical education professionals. It offers: Expert Instruction, Innovative Ideas, Networking Opportunities,
Continuing Education Credits. The Institute aims to equip physical educators with the knowledge and skills necessary to create engaging and effective learning experiences for all students.
