RMC’s John Ross, MD receives ASDIN Lifetime Achievement Award

COLUMBIA, SC – John R. Ross, MD, Medical Director of the Regional Medical Center’s Dialysis Access Institute in Orangeburg, SC, recently was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 11th Annual American Society of Diagnostic & Interventional Nephrology (ASDIN) Scientific Conference held in Orlando, Florida.
According to an ASDIN spokesperson, Dr. Ross joins an esteemed group of physicians who have received the award in recognition for their overall contribution to interventional nephrology. Arif Asif, MD, Chair of the ASDIN Awards Committee, presented the award and recalled hearing Dr. Ross lecture when he was just beginning to be involved in the vascular access field and emphasized the effect that Dr. Ross had on his involvement in the field.
Dr. Ross is internationally renowned for developing outpatient surgical procedures and techniques which provide access to the bloodstream for patients on dialysis. He completed his medical training at the University of South Carolina, School of Medicine and has been a board-certified surgeon for more than 30 years.

A founding member and the first Vice President of the Vascular Access Society of the Americas, Dr. Ross serves on the editorial boards of The Journal of Vascular Access as well as Endovascular Today. His professional interests include vascular access for hemodialysis patients and the implementation of a standard, comprehensive access care program encompassing patient, physician and ancillary staff education.

Dr. Ross has performed thousands of dialysis access surgeries and has earned an international reputation as an authority in the field. His writings on hemodialysis access have been published extensively, and he has presented at national and regional conferences including the American Society of Diagnostic and Interventional Nephrology, the American College of Surgeons and the VEITHsymposium™. His extensive research focuses on improving the scope of hemodialysis access management.
Dr. Ross practiced for many years in Bamberg and joined RMC in March 2011 when the Dialysis Access Institute was established to serve patients with end-stage renal disease. In October 2013 a new, $6.8 million, 16,000-square-foot Dialysis Access Institute (DAI), a world-class facility, opened at the Regional Medical Center. RMC’s DAI, the only facility of its kind dedicated solely to the care of end-stage renal disease patients, is accredited by the American Society of Diagnostic & Interventional Nephrology as a hemodialysis vascular access training center.
Physicians from throughout the United States and other countries visit RMC to be trained in the procedures performed at the Dialysis Access Institute.
