Rod Aycox and Lamell McMorris Respond to Tragedy in Charleston by Donating $1 Million to Civil Rights and Religious Groups

CHARLESTON, SC – Rod Aycox, CEO of Select Management Resources, has partnered with Lamell McMorris, CEO of Perennial Strategy Group and board trustee to national civil rights organizations including the NAACP, the National Urban League, the National Action Network, and the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, to provide a total of $1 million in gifts to organizations that fight discrimination and that increase tolerance. The announcement was made in the wake of the tragic shooting deaths of nine people at the historic Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, S.C.
Through these gifts, Aycox and McMorris are proud to support a number of local and national organizations including the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, the Anti-Defamation League, the Conference of National Black Churches, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, the Martin Luther King, Jr. International Chapel at Morehouse College, the NAACP, the National Action Network, the National Council of La Raza, the National Urban League, and the Rainbow PUSH Coalition.
“Our hearts are heavy this week after the senseless murders at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina. In a time like this, we have offered our prayers, but we know we have to do more – we have to take action and speak out,” said Aycox. McMorris continued, “As Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. explained, ‘The ultimate tragedy is not the oppression and cruelty by the bad people but the silence over that by the good people.’ Mr. Aycox and I hope that by offering our support to the Church and to organizations that help to fight intolerance and hatred in the community and help to improve the quality of life for everyone around our country, we can help prevent tragedies like this from happening in the future.”
By partnering with these civil rights and religious organizations, Aycox and McMorris have chosen to support programs that help improve the underlying conditions that lead to violence, namely a lack of economic opportunity and ignorance.
