Ron Scott selected to inaugural class of South Carolina Lawyers Hall of Fame
November 1, 2018Scott & Corley, PA, announced Ronald “Ron” C. Scott was selected as one of the twenty –two (22) members of the inaugural class of the South Carolina Lawyers Hall of Fame. The award is sponsored by South Carolina Lawyers Weekly to honor lawyers who have used their leadership and volunteerism to make a difference in their profession. Criteria for selection for the 2018 inaugural class included career accomplishments to the profession, contributions to the development of law, contributions to the bar and the state of South Carolina and efforts to increase access to justice.
Scott currently serves as the Firm Chair in the firm’s Columbia office. He is an experienced creditor-debtor rights and governmental affairs lawyer who, in his primary practice area of creditor rights work, represents financial institutions including the money center banks and regional banks as well as private equity mortgage servicers and governmental related entities. In addition he has represented two highly visible state professional associations for the past thirty-five years on legal and legislative matters. Prior to attending law school, Scott served an active duty assignment with the United States Army during which time he graduated from the United State Army Adjutant General’s School.
Scott is a current selection in his primary practice area to Best Lawyers in America ® (Woodard/White, Inc.) including “2018 Lawyer of the Year” as well as being currently recognized in his primary practice area by Super Lawyers ®. In 2015 he was the top attorney vote recipient for the category of Governmental Affairs for the “Legal Elite of the Midlands” by Columbia Business Monthly®. Scott has served in House of Delegates of the SC Bar as well as participating in the Liberty Legacy of the SC Bar Foundation. He has also served in a number of civic, educational and philanthropic leadership roles in Columbia and across the state. As a part of his family’s public service philosophy of “giving back”, he has helped to fund student scholarships in the names of family members at Furman University, Francis Marion University and Columbia College. For his service to community, state and nation, the Governor of South Carolina has awarded him the Order of the Palmetto, the state of South Carolina’s highest civilian award. In addition the Mayor of Columbia and City Council voted unanimously to honor him with “Ronald C Scott Day” on October 12, 2017.
The 2018 inaugural class will be honored by South Carolina Lawyers Weekly at an awards luncheon on November 6 in Columbia.
