Samsung continues partnership with Newberry County School District

December 7, 2020

Since Samsung made Newberry home to its Samsung Electronics Home Appliances (SEHA) facility, its commitment to community outreach and American manufacturing has been clear. Not only has Samsung brought over 1,000 jobs to the county, it has served as a beacon of light for South Carolina residents by hosting luncheons, fundraisers and more.

In 2018, SEHA partnered with the Newberry County School District to engage students and provide them a first-hand look at advanced manufacturing. Through this partnership, students have gained knowledge of the manufacturing industry and how Samsung produces washing machines for thousands of retailers across the country. For the past two years, Students have been welcomed into the SEHA facility where they learned the benefits of American manufacturing and how it contributes to economic growth in communities like Newberry.

“When we began this partnership we promised to provide education technology to local schools in order to offer innovative opportunities to local students,” said head of Human Resources at Samsung Electronics Home Appliance America. “We are thrilled that even during an unprecedented year, we were able to find a way to stay involved with the students at Newberry County Schools.”

Due to the pandemic, students could not join in person this year. To continue the tradition while keeping the students and employees safe, Samsung hosted a virtual tour of the local facility. Numerous employees gave testimonials about their daily efforts to produce state-of-the-art products and encouraged students to consider the manufacturing career field in the future.

“Samsung continues to be a shining light across the Newberry community,” said Jim Suber, Superintendent of the Newberry County School District. “Our students thoroughly enjoy learning more about the opportunities in their backyard, and manufacturing is an industry that garners more support the more they learn. Our partnership with Samsung continues to prove to be fruitful for our students and this year’s additional effort is incredibly gracious.”

At Samsung, we celebrate the positive benefits of American manufacturing as a cornerstone of economic success and the future of our students in local communities that we call home. We look forward to continuing the impacts we can provide to this growing industry.
