Sanctuary Food Hall seeks local food and beverage vendors in the Columbia region

Sanctuary Food Hall, a new food and beverage concept slated to locate in the historic Chapel of Hope building in the BullStreet District in downtown Columbia, South Carolina, is seeking local food and beverage businesses to join its uniquely curated collection of eateries.
Sanctuary Food Hall will provide a vibrant, centrally located space where regional and local, small food and beverage businesses can thrive, from food trucks and carts looking for their first brick-and-mortar locations to restaurants looking for an affordable downtown location.
Targeting an opening date in 2023, Sanctuary Food Hall is the latest project from Creative Culinary Ventures, LLC (CCV), in Atlanta, Georgia. CCV developed the Marietta Square Market Food Hall just outside of Atlanta.
“Based on our experience developing Marietta Square Market Food Hall, we know that a concept like this creates opportunities for locals to connect with smaller, distinctive food and beverage vendors who might not otherwise have a formal location,” says Ed Lee, founder of Creative Culinary Ventures. “It also creates an opportunity for expansion for existing full-service restaurants in a prime downtown district.”
Sanctuary Food Hall will be an adaptive reuse of the historic Chapel of Hope. The Chapel is located in the center of the 181-acre BullStreet District’s 120,000 sq. ft. retail development, which continues to grow with the recent announcement of the Bennet at BullStreet luxury apartments, a mixed-use development which will house retail and 269 residences just across from the food hall.
The Chapel is situated on Pickens Street near Segra Park, the upcoming WestLawn building, and the historic Babcock Building, which is currently under renovation into more than 200 residences with upscale amenities. Two other residential developments, TownPark at BullStreet and the Merrill Gardens active senior community, are occupied with residents who already are enjoying BullStreet’s newly opened, 20-acre Page Ellington Park and its trails, pond and dog park. The REI Co-Op retail store and Starbucks are situated within one block of the Chapel.
The approximately 19,000 sq. ft. Sanctuary Food Hall will have space for roughly 15 to 20 vendors of various sizes, from micro-enterprises to full-service restaurants and bars. Vendors will benefit from a central location that serves not only close to 840,000 residents in the greater Columbia, S.C., metro area but also the 65,000 college students who call Columbia home.
There will be an outdoor green for dining, live music, events and gatherings. The mezzanine in the Chapel is slated to be available for private events and/or community seating. Guests will be able to park in the new parking deck — currently under construction steps away — or use surface parking adjacent to Sanctuary Food Hall and throughout the district.
“What we envision is an assortment of eateries that offer a wide variety of food and drink options, spanning many food cultures that reflect Columbia’s remarkable diversity,” notes Lee. “Patrons will be able to pop in for a quick bite or make it a full-blown culinary experience by meeting up with friends and family and sampling dishes from multiple vendors. We see Sanctuary Food Hall as a place where people can get that wonderful feeling of becoming regulars, making friends with the people behind the food, and supporting an array of creative small businesses in the process.”
