Sandra Rouse Appointed Associate Dean of Students for Newberry College

NEWBERRY, SC – Dr. Sandra Rouse [photo attached] has joined Newberry College as associate dean of Students in the Office of Student Affairs where she will develop and implement strategies to serve students in the areas of Residence Life, Student Engagement and Student Conduct. Rouse brings more than 15 years of higher education experience to her new position, including as Newberry College’s director of Residence Life from 1998-2000.

Rouse most recently served as the director of Education and Research for the National Association for Campus Activities in Columbia, S.C., where she established the organization’s education and research agenda and supported its fundraising activities. She served as director of The Freshman Year and Retention Programs at Voorhees College in Denmark, S.C. (2007-2011) where she designed academic and co-curricular activities to retain students and ensure that they graduated.

Prior to that, Rouse served as director of Residence Life at Salem College in Winston-Salem, N.C., where she managed student housing operations, residence life programming and judicial affairs. As assistant director of Student Advising and Recruitment Center for the School of Education at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Rouse had advising responsibilities for more than 250 undergraduate students, guiding them on course selection, career objectives, personal goals and financial concerns. She also served as that school’s area director with responsibility for coordinating residence hall programming for 11 residence halls serving 1,500 students.

Rouse has more than 14 years of teaching experience in adjunct roles and was an instructor at the University of South Carolina. She received the Hilda F. Owens Award for Contribution to Knowledge in the Field in 2010 from the South Carolina College Personnel Association and received the Excellence in Teaching Award in 2001 for “University Studies 101” from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Rouse earned her Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She earned her M.Ed. in Student Personnel Services with Counseling Emphasis from the University of South Carolina, Columbia, and holds a B.A. degree in Psychology from Columbia College, Columbia, S.C.
