February 1, 2018

Three individuals representing Lexington-Richland School District Five’s Adult Education program received awards from the South Carolina Association of Adult and Continuing Education organization.

Dr. Kathie Greer, District Five’s Director of Adult Education, was named the organization’s Director of the Year. Student Camilla White was awarded the Outstanding Adult Learner of the Year, and mentor Nathan Spells of Construction Dynamics received the Civics Citizenship award.

“This just validates the quality of our program here in District Five,” Greer said. “We have such a strong team and I am so proud to be a part of this. I have the honor to work with an exceptional group of people, and exceptional things happen when you have exceptional people.”

The adult education program’s mission in District Five is to inspire and facilitate learning, empowering participants to attain personal, academic and career goals. The program specializes in assessing student needs, creating, and delivering individualized comprehensive plans of study, and assisting students with transitions to initial employment, career changes, and post-secondary education and training.

Career development facilitator Mary Hugee said of White and Spells, “Camilla demonstrates outstanding qualities we look for. She is a positive role model for all the students. Mr. Spells is a wonderful business man that saw our vision and shared our mission. He assists with assigning our apprentices with other construction companies enrolled in our apprenticeship program.”

“We are so thrilled for these incredible individuals who have been recognized for their hard work, dedication and passion for continuing education,” said District Five Superintendent-elect Dr. Christina Melton. “Dr. Greer, Ms. White and Mr. Spells all play important roles in making the Adult Education program what it is here in District Five. Congratulations to them!”
