SC Bar Young Lawyers Division presents major gift to Make-A-Wish and aims to increase 2018 donation

April 30, 2018

In 2017, The Young Lawyers Division of the South Carolina Bar made an incredible impact in the lives of local kids battling critical illnesses. Led by a philanthropic committee within the Division, member attorneys raised funds and awareness for Make-A-Wish® South Carolina through a variety of programs and events in a successful year-long campaign.

The Young Lawyers hosted unique events including an inaugural golf tournament, Birdies for Belief, and participated in many Make-A-Wish South Carolina programs and events. In total they raised more than $26,000 for Make-A-Wish South Carolina.

The tremendous effort made by the Young Lawyers is enough to support three and a half wishes. When asked about the contribution made by the Division, Bill Tiller, President and CEO at Make-A-Wish South Carolina stated, “We are so grateful for the outstanding support. With these funds, the Young Lawyers of South Carolina are providing renewed strength and hope for local kids who need that increased energy and confidence in their fight against a critical illness.”

This year, the Young Lawyers are aiming to increase their donation and have set a goal of $30,000.00. To achieve this, the Division will be hosting several events including the 2nd Annual Birdies for Belief Golf Tournament on Friday, May 4. Companies or individuals can help support their efforts through the golf tournament by contacting Kimberly Snipes at (803) 799-6653, ext. 135 or [email protected].

Reflecting on their campaign goals and why they choose to support Make-A-Wish, the committee chair, Ryan Neville, said, “as lawyers, we are charged with helping people through some of their most difficult times in their lives, and the way these brave kids and their families face life’s toughest fight is an inspiration to everyone involved from the SC Bar in this effort to raise awareness and funds for Make-A-Wish.”
