SC Council on Economic Education Elects Five New Board Members

The South Carolina Council on Economic Education announces the election of William R. “Bill” Edmonds, director of the Merrill Lynch Columbia Complex; Trescott N. “Scott” Hinton, Jr., president, Companion Life Insurance Company; Nikki Hutchison, managing partner, Carroll Campbell & Associates; Otis B. Rawl, Jr., president and CEO, SC Chamber of Commerce; and Roe Young, owner, State Farm Insurance Agency, to three-year terms on its Board of Directors.

“We’re excited to have these bright individuals join our board,” said Larry Wilson, SCCEE Board chair. “We are confident of their ability to promote the Council in their own communities and of their support to the organization as we prepare the next generation of economically literate adults.”

Bill Edmonds joined Merrill Lynch in 1991 and was named to head its Columbia office in 2008. Prior to this, he opened the Merrill Lynch office in Anderson, was resident director of the Greenville office, and associate director of the Tri-South Region in Atlanta.  Active in the community, Edmonds has worked with the Anderson Salvation Army advisory board, the Rotary Clubs of Anderson and Greenville, and Leadership Greenville.

Scott Hinton assumed his current position of president with the Companion Life Insurance Company in 2007. The Clemson native joined Companion Life in 1986 as director of financial services and assistant treasurer. In 1995, he was promoted to vice president of Finance, and in 1999, vice president of Finance and Operations and CFO.

As a managing partner of Carroll Campbell & Associates’ South Carolina office, Nikki Hutchison specializes in governmental affairs. Her professional efforts include establishing a governmental political relations firm responsible for grant writing and fundraising in excess of $1,000,000 annually. In addition to serving on the boards of various non-profits throughout her career, she has an extensive background in marketing, communications and public relations.

Otis Rawl began his career in the public sector in 1978 and has held a variety of positions. He served as deputy executive administrator for tax operations of the SC Departmentof Revenue and chief of staff of the Department of Public Safety.  After retiring from state government in 2001, he began working for the SC Chamber of Commerce as the vice president of public policy and chief operating officer. He was named the Chamber’s president and CEO in October 2008.

Roe Young has owned his business for 20 years and is a second generation State Farm agent dealing in investments, banking and insurance. He was recognized as one of the top five out of 17,000 State Farm agents. His community involvement includes past president of the Lions Club, annual lecturer to university business schools, and advocate for Special Olympics.
