SC Governor’s School for the Arts & Humanities ranked 42 in Newsweek’s“2012 America’s Best High Schools”

SOUTH CAROLINA – May 21, 2012 – Newsweek announced the “2012America’s Best High Schools” and the South Carolina Governor’s Schoolfor the Arts & Humanities (SCGSAH) was ranked 42, up from 105 in2011. 

Newsweek compiled the 2012 list of the top high schools in America after reaching out to administrators, principals, guidance counselors,and Advanced Placement/International Baccalaureate coordinators at morethan 10,000 public high schools nationwide. In order to be consideredfor the list, each school had to complete a survey requesting specificdata from the 2010-2011 academic year. In total, more than 2,300 schoolswere assessed to produce the final list of the top 1000 high schools. 

Newsweek based its ranking on six components: four-year, on-time graduation rate (25%), percent of2011 graduates accepted to college (25%), AP/IB/AICE tests taken perstudent (25%), average SAT/ACT scores (10%), average AP/IB/AICE scores(10%), and AP/IB/AICE courses offered (5%).

The ranking components reflect SCGSAH’s success in academics. The schoolconsistently maintains a 100% graduation rate with all studentsattending college or professional studies. Students also excel in APresults, with an average 3.9 score. The school ranks 3rd in SouthCarolina for the highest cumulative SAT scores.

SCGSAH is one of only two schools in the top 50 that focus on the arts.
 
Three additional schools for South Carolina were ranked: AcademicMagnet, North Charleston (22), Chapin, Chapin (725), Charleston CountySchool of the Arts, North Charleston (788).
