SC Launch Presents “Big Check” to GreenWizard

February 18, 2011

Invests $200,000 in Charleston-Based Company

CHARLESTON, SC – February 18, 2011 – SC Launch, an SCRA affiliate, presented a “big check” to its most recent Portfolio Company, GreenWizard Inc., during an SC Launch Networking Reception on Thursday.

GreenWizard is a technology company offering a web-based software solution for architects, engineers, and contractors to search, compare, buy & document green building materials from thousands of manufacturers.

The GreenWizard workflow platform offers users the ability to research green and sustainable building products by each particular green attribute, or search for products based on their multiple attributes, which is integral to obtaining higher Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEEDÔ) building scores. As products are researched, they can they be modeled against one another, or the project in aggregate, in order to determine the best mix of materials. When a LEED project enters the procurement stage, the platform is utilized by general contractors and their subcontractors to source the specified materials, as well as seek acceptable alternate products. As the project nears completion, the Software as a Service (SaaS) workflow allows for automatic production of LEED documentation as well as population of LEED credit templates. Lastly, GreenWizard has now formed an alliance with the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), allowing for the seamless submission and population of all materials-related documentation.

GreenWizard’s CEO, Adam Bernholz, is a successful entrepreneur. Bernholz previously worked in the venture capital industry before founding The Service Source, a B2B marketplace for business services. Bernholz founded GreenWizard after beginning the research and evaluation process for materials related to his own net-zero home near Charleston.

“While looking to build a net-zero home, I realized the profound market pain associated with researching, procuring, and documenting green building products,” said Bernholz. “I founded GreenWizard to address this growing market and assist in the sales and distribution of green building products. The support of SC Launch will certainly help GreenWizard to continue to grow.”

Also leading the company as President and COO is Jerry Lepore. Lepore has over 30 years of corporate experience that includes senior executive positions at Cigna, Aetna Healthcare and Benefitfocus. Lepore also started and served as managing director of Microsoft’s Enterprise consulting practice. Additionally, he has owned and operated several technology companies supporting the healthcare, education, and financial-services industries.

“We appreciate the SC Launch program and all that it has done for GreenWizard,” said Lepore. “This investment will allow us to take our operations to the next level of growth.”

“SC Launch is a catalyst for growth and investment in promising companies such as GreenWizard, which is adding great value to the green building products market,” said SC Launch Executive Director Dave McNamara. “We are delighted to have GreenWizard as our newest Portfolio Company, and we look forward to their continued success.”

“This company joins many others as a strong member of South Carolina’s Knowledge Economy,” stated SCRA CEO Bill Mahoney. “Not only is GreenWizard contributing to our environmental well being, but also to our economic strength as a technology-based company creating quality jobs in South Carolina.”

SCRA has provided funding and support, through its SC Launch program, for 188 qualified entities since its inception in 2006. The SC Launch program has attracted more than $104 million in add-on, private equity investment funding in South Carolina knowledge-based, start-up companies.
