BEETHOVEN & BLUE JEANS | March 29, 2025 | 7:30 PM | @Koger Center for the Arts

Beethoven & Blue Jeans is regularly the SC Phil’s most popular concert at the Koger Center each season, and this year’s installment features a blockbuster lineup of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3, “Eroica,” Camille Saint-Saëns’ Piano Concerto No. 2 and Fang Man’s Noir. The Saint-Saëns’ will feature Noah Kim, the celebrated winner of the 2023 Southeastern Piano Festival.

As a popular mainstay in the orchestra’s classical season, Beethoven & Blue Jeans provides audiences an opportunity to engage with the work of Beethoven, it regularly welcomes talented guest artists to Columbia, and it invites audiences to unbutton and adorn themselves with their favorite denim from their wardrobe – demystifying the classical music experience and making it more comfortable. It should be noted that the SC Phil always welcomes patrons from all walks of life, and champions a “come as you are” mentality for all concerts.

Beethoven and Blue Jeans is sponsored by Pat and Tom Fortson, Terminix, and Noah Kim is sponsored by Joseph Bruce.

Elevating accessibility in the organization’s work has seen the return of the orchestra’s three-year old sensory-friendly concert for all families: Family Time with the Phil. This year the concert is free to the public thanks to support from the National Endowment for the Arts, the SC Arts Commission, Colonial Life, BlueCross BlueShield of SC, Elizabeth Wheeler, Grace Outdoor Advertising, Palmetto Citizens Federal Credit Union, Looking Out Foundation and Koger Center for the Arts.

With this one-hour long concert matinee, families can embrace the magic of live symphonic music in a welcoming atmosphere where lasting memories can be made together. Freedom and fun abound with Family Time with the Phil – the SC Phil’s inclusive concert-matinee that invites audiences to sing, dance, and enjoy the symphony without the expected barriers of a live performance. Whether concertgoers are tapping their feet to lively tunes, singing along with the orchestra, taking a break to visit the quiet room or simply letting the music move them – this experience promises joy and excitement for the whole family. The orchestra also welcomes partner organizations to the lobby during pre-show that can let patrons know about various community opportunities that provide accessible programs for all. Patrons can also enjoy an instrument “petting zoo,” getting to meet off-duty service dogs from PAALS (Palmetto Animal Assisted Life Services) and picking up a fidget spinner or some headphones if needed.

Both of these programs are also made possible through grant support from the City of Columbia H-Tax Grant Program, the Richland County H-Tax Grant Program, and the South Carolina Arts Commission which is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts and collaborates in its work with the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies and South Arts.

The South Carolina Philharmonic is committed to performing live symphonic music and providing dynamic educational opportunities in the Midlands. We carry forward a legacy of passion for the music and embrace our responsibility to be a vibrant part of the cultural fabric of our diverse community.
