SC School Boards Association recognizes eight board members for earning top recognition in training
March 1, 2018The South Carolina School Boards Association (SCSBA) honors eight South Carolina school board members with the highest recognition in the SCSBA Boardmanship Institute.
The SCSBA Boardmanship Institute, established in 1982, offers a year-round training curriculum to help board members develop skills and stay abreast of state and national educational issues. Board members can achieve up to six levels of recognition by earning points that are accrued annually from July through June for participation in statewide conferences and training provided onsite in their district.
Level Six recipients include:
- Richard Bradshaw, Anderson School District Five Board Chair
- Samuel Farlow, Orangeburg Consolidated School District Five Board Member
- Levi Green, Aiken County Public Schools Board Chair
- Henry Jenkins, Orangeburg Consolidated School District Five Board Secretary
- Jack Mabry, Spartanburg County School District Two Board Chair
- William Sumner, Lancaster County School District Board Member
- Gregory Tysl, Anderson County School District Two Board Member
- John Wilson, Georgetown County School District Board Member and SCSBA Region 3 Director
Recipients were recognized by SCSBA on Saturday, February 17, 2018, during the association’s annual convention in Hilton Head.
To qualify for Level Six, board members must earn 300 points for attending training sessions over the past five years or less and pass a written exam. Conferences throughout the year focus on various topics including school law, school finance, legislation, improving board operations, leadership for improving student achievement and others.
SCSBA is a non-profit organization serving as a source of information and a statewide voice for boards governing the state’s 81 school districts.
