SCCADVASA’s “REALationships IQ” quiz helps parents and teens discuss healthy relationships

It’s official: The REALationships101 campaign and its new REALationships IQ quiz is a hit with teens and parents across South Carolina. In March, the S.C. Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (SCCADVASA) launched the quiz, along with other new features of its REALationships101 digital marketing campaign. The campaign helps teens and young adults identify the characteristics of a healthy relationship. Parents can use the quiz to start a conversation with their kids by visiting http://www.realationships101.org.
In one month, the ad campaign has delivered more than 230,000 impressions and the quiz has been viewed more than 1,500 times.
The five-question REALationships IQ quiz, a vital new feature of the campaign, targets teens and young adults across social media and online to bring attention to healthy aspects of relationships — aspects that are particularly helpful at a time when youth are constantly inundated with instances of violence and toxic relationship practices behind the screens of their mobile devices.
The quiz is not only beneficial to youth who can learn about what constitutes a healthy relationship, but also serves as a tool for parents and educators to break down barriers and discuss topics like consent, respect, and trust with their children.
The quiz questions focus on real-world scenarios that a teen or young adult might face as they begin forming relationships of their own. Each quiz question has multiple choice answers and is accompanied by an in-depth response explaining the correct answer. At the end of the quiz, the user is given a REALationships IQ score based on their results, with an option to view more resources on the campaign website at http://www.realationships101.org.
“We’re excited about the opportunity this gives parents and educators to test their children’s knowledge on healthy relationships and help to apply these practices to their lives,” says Sara Barber, executive director of SCCADVASA. “We believe the REALationships IQ quiz will serve as a primary tool for teaching young people in our state about topics like consent and respect — which aligns with our mission to promote the prevention of domestic violence and sexual assault across the state of South Carolina and to ignite transformative social and cultural change in our communities.”
SCCADVASA initially launched the REALationships101 campaign in the fall of 2018 and has extended the campaign with additional assets, including the new quiz feature, through July 2019.
The REALationships IQ quiz is a tool for parents, educators and anyone working day to day with youth in the state of South Carolina to form an intentional, ongoing dialogue about what constitutes healthy relationships and how young people can apply those practices to their own lives.
