SCDOR named 2023 PEBA Partners Award overall award winner

The South Carolina Department of Revenue (SCDOR) has been named the 2023 overall winner of the PEBA Partners Award, an honor bestowed by the South Carolina Public Employee Benefit Authority (PEBA) to the South Carolina public employer that best demonstrates a dedication to promoting a healthy workplace.

The SCDOR was chosen from a field of 824 South Carolina public employers (including state agencies, public school districts, county and municipal governments, and higher education institutions) as PEBA’s overall winner.

“The South Carolina Department of Revenue places a strong emphasis on creating a positive and thriving work environment through a combination of wellness events, promoting numerous employee benefit programs, and supporting various initiatives throughout the year that contribute to physical, emotional and financial health,” PEBA said in its awards statement. “Overall, the SCDOR’s approach reflects a thoughtful and proactive approach for ensuring employee well-being and success.”

PEBA cited the agency’s focus on work-life balance, flexible workspaces, and access to resources for personal and professional growth as additional reasons for the award.

According to SCDOR Director Hartley Powell, employee wellness is a top priority for the agency. Healthy employees are happier and better equipped to serve South Carolina’s taxpayers, he said.

“Earning the PEBA Partners Award for 2023 is proof that the SCDOR is the premier state agency to build a career,” he said. “Our team has a genuine passion for making the SCDOR a place that values the health and well-being of its employees. They don’t do it to win awards, but I am very pleased to see their efforts recognized in this way.
