Launch at Brookland Lakeview Empowerment Center Kicks Off Largest Program Event Yet

CAYCE, SC – Residents of the Brookland-Lakeview neighborhood in West Columbia gathered Tuesday evening at the Brookland Lakeview Empowerment Center to learn more about an energy-efficiency program that SCE&G will offer at no cost to more than 750 homes in the area, making this the largest Neighborhood Energy Efficiency Program event to date.

SCE&G started the Neighborhood Energy Efficiency Program in 2013 to provide eligible neighborhoods with energy audits and energy-saving improvements for residential customers at no cost. The program in 2014 served more than 1,300 homes in neighborhoods throughout SCE&G’s electric service area.

Attendees at Tuesday’s event learned about some of the energy-saving improvements that they will receive at no cost, which could include:

    • CFL light bulbs
    • Electric water heater wraps and insulation for water pipes
    • Smart-Strip power strips
    • Winterization kits for window/wall units
    • Adjustment of electric water heater temperature
    • HVAC filter installation

The Neighborhood Energy Efficiency Program will be active in the Brookland-Lakeview neighborhood for approximately three months. SCE&G plans to serve more than 1,400 households in 2015 by implementing the program in additional neighborhoods throughout the company’s electric service area.

“We are dedicated to educating our customers about ways to be energy wise and make their homes more energy efficient,” said Therese Griffin, manager of SCE&G Energy Efficiency Programs. “The Neighborhood Energy Efficiency Program will allow us to connect directly with our customers who need this assistance the most and work with them to create a more sustainable and energy efficient community.”

SCE&G offers a comprehensive portfolio of EnergyWise® programs that work together to increase overall energy efficiency and reduce energy usage during peak times. Through the use of energy efficient tips and ideas, rebates and incentives, SCE&G customers reduced electricity usage by approximately 270,000 MWh during the portfolio’s first three years.
