School District Five announces associate principal at Irmo High School

May 10, 2018

School administrator Jay Clark has been named associate principal at Irmo High School. Clark will join Dr. Robin Hardy, who takes over as principal after David Riegel announced plans to resign at the end of the school year.

The role of associate principal has historically been held at several schools in Lexington-Richland School District Five. In his new role, Clark will collaborate with the principal to supervise and professionally support all staff members. He will also perform the important day-to-day administration of duties, schedules, facilities, curriculum, professional development, athletics and programs related to the high school.

“Reinstating the associate principal role at Irmo High School is key as Dr. Hardy and her team implement their vision for the school, and we believe Mr. Clark is a perfect fit,” School District Five Superintendent-elect Dr. Christina Melton said. “As someone who’s worked in our district and served as an administrator for several years, Mr. Clark will be a strong addition to the team. We’re excited for the future of Irmo High, a school with ‘A Proud Past, and Bright Future.’”

Clark has served as assistant principal at Spring Hill High School since 2015. He also served as an assistant principal at CrossRoads Intermediate School and as an educator at Dutch Fork Middle School. Clark spent the early part of his education career as a high school computer applications and information teacher in his home state of Virginia.

“I am excited for this new journey at Irmo High School,” Clark said. “Irmo has a long standing tradition of academics and athletics. This is a wonderful chapter to embark upon in my career and I am thrilled to work alongside of Dr. Hardy as we continue to mold the minds of the future.”

Clark holds a bachelor’s degree from Emory & Henry College and a master’s degree in education administration and secondary supervision from Liberty University.

“Jay Clark is a strong school leader with vast professional experiences who advocates what is best for all students,” Hardy said. “He is a welcomed addition to the Irmo High School family because of his intense focus on high quality, student-centered educational experiences. He understands his role in the school is to provide support for students and teachers to maximize learning opportunities. He believes the power of positive thinking is infectious.”
