SCMEP Awarded Grant to Improve Competitiveness of US Supply Chains
October 27, 2010COLUMBIA,SC – October 24, 2010 – The South Carolina Manufacturing ExtensionPartnership (SCMEP) is pleased to announce it will become a part of aspecial consortium consisting of five MEP Centers (Southern California,Illinois, Texas, and Virginia) receiving $602,000 in grant funding bythe National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST). The grant willaid the improvement of US manufacturing supply chains and cover thefirst year of the forecasted three-year undertaking. Based on inputfrom both original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and the NIST MEPsystem, the initiative will expand MEP center services to support thedevelopment and competitiveness of U.S. supply chains. The initiativewill focus on development of tools and techniques for use withinexisting supply chains as well as services to support the developmentof supply chains for emerging Growth Sectors. Over the next threeyears, the initiative will include development, demonstration, anddeployment of new and refined services throughout the MEP System.
NIST awarded this competitive proposal effective October 1, 2010 andfunded the first year. SCMEP President John Irion states, “ SCMEP isvery proud and honored to be a part of this effort we are lookingforward to helping both South Carolina and United States manufacturerscompete globally.”
