SCMEP Awarded Grant to Improve Competitiveness of US Supply Chains

COLUMBIA, SC – October 24, 2010 – The South Carolina Manufacturing Extension Partnership (SCMEP) is pleased to announce it will become a part of a special consortium consisting of five MEP Centers (Southern California, Illinois, Texas, and Virginia) receiving $602,000 in grant funding by the National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST). The grant will aid the improvement of US manufacturing supply chains and cover the first year of the forecasted three-year undertaking. Based on input from both original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and the NIST MEP system, the initiative will expand MEP center services to support the development and competitiveness of U.S. supply chains. The initiative will focus on development of tools and techniques for use within existing supply chains as well as services to support the development of supply chains for emerging Growth Sectors. Over the next three years, the initiative will include development, demonstration, and deployment of new and refined services throughout the MEP System.

NIST awarded this competitive proposal effective October 1, 2010 and funded the first year. SCMEP President John Irion states, “ SCMEP is very proud and honored to be a part of this effort we are looking forward to helping both South Carolina and United States manufacturers compete globally.”
