Scott and Company CPAs promotes two members of audit team

Scott and Company LLC, one of South Carolina’s leading accounting and consulting firms, has promoted Sharon Ray, CPA and Casey Gilbert on the growing firm’s Assurance and Advisory Services team.
In assuming her new duties as Manager, Ms Ray will be responsible for leading all aspects of audit, attestation and consulting engagements, training and developing associates and managing client relations through timely communication and ensuring stated engagement objectives are met. In addition to these core day-to-day tasks, Ms. Ray will be responsible for developing and expanding client relationships and fostering non-client relationships to assist in achieving the firm’s long-term business goals.
Ms. Ray began her career at the South Carolina Department of Revenue, where she audited tax returns of the various taxes collected by the State of South Carolina. Subsequently, Ms. Ray joined a regional public accounting firm in their audit and assurance department. While there, Ms. Ray lead engagements for a variety of clients including commercial service organizations, manufacturing companies, not-for-profit organizations, governments, quasi-governmental organizations, and the college/universities sector.
At Scott and Company, Ms. Ray has worked on audit and non-audit engagements which included engagement planning and completion, supervising and reviewing the work of staff and daily communication with clients. Ms. Ray has continued to gain industry knowledge and expertise in the governmental (including Indian Tribal), not-for-profit, healthcare, and manufacturing sectors.
Ms. Ray is an active member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and with the South Carolina Association of CPAs. She holds a B.S. degree in Accounting from the University of South Carolina, a B.B.A. in Information Systems from Campbell University, and earned her M.B.A. from Webster University.
While pursuing an Accounting degree from the University of South Carolina’s Moore School of Business, Casey Gilbert served as an intern with Scott and Company. She joined the firm’s Assurance and Advisory Services department in 2013 and has since received her Master of Accountancy from the University of South Carolina and is eligible to sit for the CPA exam.
As an in-charge accountant, Ms. Gilbert’s responsibilities include, assisting in supervising associates and staff accountants on audit and non-audit engagements. With her prior experience serving as an accounting clerk and warranty administrator for major area automotive dealerships, where she managed numerous accounting schedules, prepared management reports, and reconciled and submitted sales taxes for multiple car franchises, Ms. Gilbert has gained valuable experience in the auto dealership industry. Her experience also includes the areas of governmental, nonprofit, and non-public entities, among others.
Ms. Gilbert was the president of the MACC student association and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants.
