Scouting For Food Collections Jan 31
January 30, 2009Strong Values – Strong Youth – Strong Community
COLUMBIA, SC – January 30, 2009 – As everyone settles back to their daily routine following the holidays, the Indian Waters Council of the Boy Scouts of America, would like to remind the community that feeding the hungry is a year-long endeavor.
The Scouting for Food project will begin on Saturday, January 31st, as Scouts place reminder notices at front doors throughout the eight-county Council area. If you choose to participate, simply fill a bag with non-perishable food items and place the bag on your front porch before 9am on Saturday, February 7th.
Scouts will be by that day to pick them up. If you do not receive a notice, simply fill your own grocery bag with food items and bring the bag to the Council office at 715 Betsy Drive in Columbia.
Last year, over 100,000 food items were collected throughout the Council and given to local food pantries. This year, Scouts are striving to beat that record.
More information can be found on the Council website at www.indianwaters.org. This Scouting for Food project is one of the many community service projects, or Good Turns for America, the youth of the Indian Waters Council participate in each year.
