SCPRT Hires Communications Professional to Boost Statewide Tourism Marketing
June 9, 2014COLUMBIA, SC – A new public relations professional was added to the team at the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism (SCPRT) to enhance its efforts in marketing the state as a preferred vacation destination.
Kim Jamieson, who has more than seven years of experience in public relations, marketing and communications, is the new manager of public relations at SCPRT. She will focus on efforts to proactively engage media writers and editors to help promote South Carolina’s destinations and add earned exposure to the paid advertising effort. Her duties will also include working closely with the public relations team at BFG Communications, SCPRT’s advertising firm of record.
Prior to joining SCPRT, Kim served as the director of communications for Columbia Metropolitan Convention and Visitors Bureau (Columbia CVB). During her time at the Columbia CVB, Kim garnered statewide, regional, national and international media coverage on various happenings taking place throughout the Columbia region. In three years, she successfully secured two feature pieces in the national publication Southern Living – focusing on Columbia’s Devine and Main Streets – national exposure on Columbia’s untold civil rights story through the Columbia SC 63 project, international praise for the No. 1 gated attraction in South Carolina, Riverbanks Zoo and Garden, and some 200 plus other mentions and recognitions for area restaurants, attractions, festivals, events, history, culture and cuisine.
Before assuming the role at the Columbia CVB, Kim was a public relations specialist at Columbia-based, full-service advertising, public relations, marketing and web development agency, Chernoff Newman. While there, Kim served as lead on a number of initiatives, events and campaigns for clients across the Southeast.
Kim holds a Master’s degree in mass communications with a concentration in integrated marketing communications, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in journalism and public relations – both from the University of South Carolina.
“Being a native South Carolinian – hailing from the Upstate – I know what wonderful assets can be found all across the Palmetto State,” said Jamieson. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to tout those numerous offerings, while also conveying the immense impact tourism has on the state, in this new role.”
