SCRA’s Applied R&D Sector Announces New President
May 30, 2012Chris Van Metre to Lead the Division; Joins SCRA’s Executive Team
CHARLESTON, SC – May 24, 2012 – SCRA’s Applied R&D Sector, thecompany’s collaboration management and technology solutions arm, todayannounced Chris Van Metre as the new Applied R&D President. VanMetre is the third president of the division since it formed in 1998 andsucceeds Rick Self who recently retired.
In his new role, Van Metre will oversee the strategic direction of SCRAApplied R&D, a $190M not-for-profit firm that minimizes the burdenof government by helping industry, federal agencies and universitiescollaborate to rapidly commercialize applied research. Van Metre, aseven year SCRA veteran, has held several positions within the company.He most recently served as SCRA’s Senior Vice President of BusinessDevelopment Operations, working with the senior leaders in each of thecompany’s sectors and industry, academic and government partners toidentify areas collaborative solutions and pursuits. Prior to that, heserved as the SCRA program lead for the Department of Defense’s OrdnanceTechnology Consortium, a seven year, $700 million program. He began histenure at SCRA as the Program Manager for the Advanced Maritime Team.
Van Metre began his career in the United States Navy, serving for 20years in a variety of leadership roles, including submarine command. VanMetre holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Notre Dame andcompleted graduate coursework at Tulane University, in addition tocompleting executive education courses in Business Development Strategyat Kellogg – Northwestern University, MBDi, Karass Negotiation andFurman’s Diversity Leadership Institute.
