SCRA to Host Workshop: Recovery Act Technology Transfer Opportunities in South Carolina

CHARLESTON, SC – July 7, 2009 – A “Green, Renewable, Oceanic, Technology Transfer Outpost” (GROTTO) workshop is being held at SCRA’s Trident Research Center on July 8 & 9, 2009. The workshop will enable research leaders, international, federal and state officials and industry & university participants to gather and exchange information regarding financial and policy initiatives in green, renewable and oceanic technology markets and their business development implications.
Federal agencies will discuss finance and international export opportunities. The workshop provides an opportunity for participants to exchange research strategies and ultimately build collaborations to capitalize on knowledge-based economic development opportunities focused on “green technology” innovation, including renewable energy topics covering wind, solar and biofuels technology.
Workshop attendees will include representatives from multiple federal departments, agencies and key officials, researchers and industry leaders from South Carolina. The workshop will afford participants a combination of time-relevant content and broad networking opportunities, including insights into technology business and research funding initiatives identified in President Obama’s Economic Recovery/Stimulus bill.
The workshop program includes a visit to the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration and the National Institute of Standards and Technology Chemical Science Tech. Lab in Charleston. A reception will be held after the workshop on both July 8 and 9.
