May 3, 2012Charleston County New Lessee; Four Others Extend Leases at SCRA Facilities
CHARLESTON, SC – May 2, 2012 – SCRA’s R&D Facilities sector, which manages SCRA facilities and leasing, today announced a new tenant in its SCRA Applied Research Center (ARC). The facility, located in North Charleston, houses the majority of SCRA’s employees and is home to the US Navy’s Manufacturing Technology Center of Excellence for Naval Shipbuilding Technology as well as 16 area companies.
The County of Charleston will become the ARC’s newest tenant and will use leased space for their Consolidated 9-1-1 Center and back-up facility purposes. This new center will merge at least nine 911 and emergency dispatch operations for Law Enforcement, EMS and fire operations for multiple jurisdictions operating within the county.
In addition, to the new tenant, ABS Consulting has extended their lease at the ARC for one year. ABSG focuses providing safety, risk and integrity management to public and private industries internationally.
Three high-tech companies working out of the SCRA MUSC Innovation Center in downtown Charleston have also extended their leases. The Innovation Center, completed in December, 2009, is a state-of-the-art research and business facility with lab spaces designed to support medical and bioscience research.
Existing companies renewing their leases include:
- CharlestonPharma, whose focus is on the development of innovative therapeutic products for patients and healthcare providers.
- SolBright Renewable Energy, a turnkey developer of Solar Photovoltaic and Solar Thermal projects for long-term, stable, distributed power solutions. Their focus markets are military and commercial scale projects primarily in the 100kW to 2,000kW size range.
- Iverson Genetic Diagnostics, Inc., who provides physicians with genetics-based testing to identify individual patients’ predispositions to major diseases as well as the therapeutic considerations that can improve treatment outcomes and quality of life.
“We welcome Charleston County to the Applied Research Center and look forward to a long-term relationship as they stand up their Consolidated 911 Operations Center,” said SCRA CEO Bill Mahoney. “We also look forward to continued advancements from our four existing tenant companies. Each of these companies brings homegrown talent to our research facilities, and we look forward to their future successes and appreciate their work in advancing South Carolina’s Knowledge Economy.”
