Southeastern developer and property management group begins construction on new 80-apartment development near downtown Charlotte

Noted Southeastern developer and property management firm NHE, Inc. has begun construction on its latest affordable housing community – and its first in the Charlotte, N.C. area — with the announcement of Parkside at Hickory Grove, an 80-unit apartment home development situated near to downtown Charlotte, N.C.

Parkside at Hickory Grove will join dozens of other NHE affordable housing properties in markets including Spartanburg, Greenville, Rock Hill, Columbia, Charleston and Anderson, South Carolina, along with conventional apartment communities in Asheville, Wilmington, Chattanooga, Greenville, Charleston and other Southeastern markets.

Parkside at Hickory Grove is a joint venture of NHE, SCG Development Partners and Creative Builders of Greenville, South Carolina, with support from Steele Group Architects and Design Resource Group. The purpose of the initiative is to continue to expand availability of high quality, affordable housing in communities across the Carolinas where growth has created strong need for affordable housing to keep pace with strong population growth. Apartment units at Parkside at Hickory Grove are available to prospective tenants with household incomes varying from 30% to 80% of area median levels for the area.

The construction of affordable housing communities like Parkside at Hickory Grove brings much-needed living spaces to growing areas, addressing the critical demand for affordable options as populations expand. However, alongside the promise of new housing developments comes the responsibility of managing the environmental impact of construction activities.

Construction sites generate significant waste, from packaging materials and unused drywall to scrap wood and metal. Properly managing this waste not only ensures compliance with local regulations but also contributes to sustainable building practices that align with the values of responsible development.

A key component in maintaining cleanliness and organization at construction sites is the strategic use of a roll off dumpster. These large, mobile containers are indispensable for handling the varied types of waste generated during construction, including heavy debris like concrete and rebar. Roll off dumpsters make it easy to collect and dispose of materials responsibly, reducing clutter and creating a safer work environment for crews.

By streamlining the process of waste collection and disposal, developers like NHE can focus on delivering high-quality housing communities while ensuring their construction practices align with environmental stewardship. This commitment to thoughtful waste management not only supports sustainable development but also fosters stronger, cleaner communities in the Carolinas and beyond.

The Parkside at Hickory Grove community is located at 5100 Little Greenleaf Way in Charlotte, a new road at the intersection of Shamrock Drive and Hickory Grove Road. The 1-, 2- and 3-bedroom apartment homes are located with excellent proximity to the community’s main commercial corridor. The community is easily accessible to schools, three grocery stores, four pharmacies, a branch library and a senior recreational center, and is served by two bus routes offering service to the VA Hospital, UNC Charlotte, Eastland Community Transit Center Hub and other important retail outlets.

“The Queen City of Charlotte is a growing, thriving area, and NHE is excited to add these high-quality affordable housing apartments at Parkside at Hickory Grove, which we consider to be an excellent addition to Charlotte’s affordable housing landscape,” said Taylor Davis, CEO of NHE, Inc. “We have sought the right opportunities in the market for several years for a project such as this and are pleased to work with our partners in bringing this important initiative to reality.”

Parkside at Hickory Grove Apartments feature one, two, and three-bedroom units ranging from 736 square feet to 1,157 square feet. Within each unit, residents enjoy high ceilings, high-quality stone countertops, attractive shaker cabinets and luxury vinyl tile flooring, among other features.
