SeamonWhiteside is deepening its investment in Midlands growth by tapping Midlands native Hunter Whitfield to lead its new Columbia office
October 14, 2025New office will focus on growing industrial and economic development sectors across the Midlands
SeamonWhiteside (SW+), a full-service site design firm with offices throughout the Carolinas, today announced the opening of its new Columbia office at 2717 Devine Street, hiring Hunter Whitfield as office leader and civil engineering team leader. This expansion reflects the firm’s continued growth, commitment to serving clients across the Carolinas, and investment in the Midlands. Whitfield’s strategic hire will help facilitate the office expansion while nurturing community connections.
“Being a native of Fairfield County, and growing up in the Blythewood and Winnsboro areas, I remain deeply connected to the Midlands,” said Whitfield. “I am looking forward to continuing to deepen our roots and expand our quality service offerings to Columbia. We’re proud to bring the same high standards and client-focused service that define SW+ while also contributing to the vitality of the community we call home.”
Located in the historic Old Shandon neighborhood, the new office offers both a central location and a strong sense of community. Devine Street, known for its vibrant mix of professional offices, locally owned shops, and restaurants, provides accessibility and visibility that aligns with SW+’s client-focused culture. The new location will serve as a hub for connecting with employees, clients, partners, and civic leaders throughout the Midlands. SW+ also plans to engage with local organizations that align with its values in education, sustainability, and community-building through its philanthropic arm, Green Square.
The Columbia office launches with four team members and is expected to grow in the coming years as demand increases:
Hunter Whitfield, Columbia office leader and civil engineering team leader. With over eight years of experience in the civil and site development industry, Whitfield primarily focuses on commercial, industrial, and economic development. He enjoys spending time at church, with family, friends, hunting, fishing, farming, and cheering on the Dawgs.
Brittany Grabski, marketing director. Grabski has a decade of marketing experience in the AEC industry and has led SW+’s marketing efforts since 2023. Passionate about strategy and fostering innovative growth, she is dedicated to driving success across the company’s endeavors. Grabski is a mom of two, a loyal Cubs fan and a Burn Boot Camp regular. She finds joy in staying active, reading, and soaking up time with her family.
Walker Johnson, civil engineering project manager. As a former team member, Johnson is thrilled to rejoin SW+. He is a seasoned civil engineer with experience leading project teams and managing site design, permitting, and client coordination across the Carolinas. When he’s not working, he enjoys golf, fishing, hunting, and spending time outdoors.
Marc Meddaugh, landscape architecture project manager. Meddaugh, who has been with SW+ for several years and is relocating to Columbia, brings extensive experience in master planning, urban design, mixed-use projects, and more, with expertise spanning all phases of project development from concept to close-out. Outside of work, Meddaugh enjoys listening to live music, watching football, playing golf and volleyball, and spending as much time as possible on the water.
“Columbia is one of the fastest-growing regions in South Carolina, and we’re excited to officially be part of it,” said William O’Neal, vice president at SeamonWhiteside. “Our expansion into Columbia marks an exciting new chapter for SW+. We’re committed to bringing our collaborative approach and dedication to quality design to serve the Midlands. As we grow, our focus remains on building meaningful relationships and shaping spaces that enhance the communities we serve.”
The new office will provide civil engineering, landscape architecture, master planning, site design, and construction administration. Collaboration across offices in the Upstate, Lowcountry, Charlotte, and Raleigh will ensure Columbia clients have access to the firm’s full range of offerings and expertise.
“As Columbia continues to grow, we’re most excited about contributing to projects that balance economic development with community benefit,” added O’Neal. “Our goal is to help shape spaces that are sustainable, inclusive, and inspiring.”
